Need a Hand Building Your Organizational Capacity?

QENO facilitates workshops and training seminars on boardmember recruitment and governance, human resources management, volunteer recruitment, and financial planning.  Additionally, peer-led roundtablediscussion meetings are regularly held for nonprofit executive directors acrossthe region.  Opportunities are also available for organizations to takepart as an AmeriCorps VISTA host organization and apply for opportunities toreceive free one-on-one coaching from an experienced QENO consultant.

 

We provide one-on-one coaching because we believe this internal organizational work is critical to help build the strength and resilience of our local nonprofit sector so that the residents of our community have the quality services and support they need to thrive.

Proposals for up to 10 hours of organizational coaching are invited by nonprofit organizations working to improve the health ofcommunities in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Robeson counties. 

 

Deadline for applications is May 4,2012.

 

Who’s Eligible?

 

o         Are you a 501(c)(3) based in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender,or Robeson counties?

o         Have you been in operation for at least three years?

o         Do you have an operating budget of $10 million or less?

o         Do you have a primary focus on positively impacting the health and well-beingof low-income individuals in your county?

 

The following types of coaching may be provided:

 

1.  Organizational Assessment: Organizations undergo an assessment of current capacities and for board and staff to reach a shared understanding of the organization’s strengths and challenges.

 

2.  Board Development:  Coaching to support board recruitment strategies,understand and define board member responsibilities, establish well-functioningboard committees, and strengthen the overall governance function of anorganization.

 

3.  Strategic Planning:  Support in defining organization’s strategy or direction and making decisions on the allocation of its resources to pursue this strategy.   In order to determine the direction of the organization, it is necessary to understand its current position and the possible avenues through which it can pursue a particular course of action.

 

4.  Program Evaluation: Coaching in establishing and refining systematic method for collecting, analyzing, and using information to answer questions aboutprojects, policies and programs, particularly about their effectiveness and efficiency.   Program Evaluations helps organizations know whether the program, policy or project has, as indicated, the intended effect

 

5.  Strategic Restructuring:  Assessment/planning to support two or more organizations assessing the feasibility of and implementation needs for alliances or integrations, such as consolidated administrative functions, shared staff positions, or mergers.  

 

6.  Financial Sustainability:  Helping organizations maintain its financial capacity over the long term can be improved by thoughtful short and long-range planning. It isn’t just about getting money—it is about strategically identifying what resources are available and needed to sustain the work that needs to be done.

 

7.  Succession Planning/Executive Transition: Developing the process whereby anorganization ensures that employees are recruited and developed to fill eachkey role within the company, especially the Executive Director roles.

 

Working with QENO Coaches

Applicants will be assigned a QENO consultant forcoaching work.  Our consultants have a broad range of experience and expertise in supporting nonprofit organizations in southeastern North Carolina.

 

 

Application Process:

 

A. Please prepare a proposal (no more than 2 pages)outlining the following:

 

1.        Organization’s Mission and Brief History, highlighting recent achievements.

2.        Describes previous experience, if any, with QENO programs and services.

3.         What training has your board completed in the past three years, if any?

4.         What specific type of capacity building support are you requesting and why?

5.         What results (increased gains and benefits) will be achieved as a result of thiscoaching? 

6.         How will you measure these results?

 

B.  Required Attachments:

1.         Listof current board of directors.

2.         Copyof most recent approved operating budget.

3.         Copyof your year-to-date income statement.
